V. S. Sunil Kumar Biography

V. S. Sunil Kumar is a young politician associated with LDF of Kerala who currently serves as Minister for Agriculture in state cabinet. He is a third-time MLA, who has been elected earlier in 2006 from Cherpu and 2011 state assembly elections from Kaipamangalam constituencies. In 2016 state assembly elections too, he successfully contested from Thrissur Assembly Constituency (Thrissur Corporation) where he defeated prominent congress politician and daughter of K. Karunakaran - former chief minister of Kerala, Padmaja Venugopal by a majority of 6987 votes. A popular leader among the masses, he is a recipient of multiple awards including Krishnan Kaniyamparampil Memorial Best MLA Award, Rajiv Gandhi Puraskaram Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram Rotary Club Puraskaram and many more.

Sunil kumar hails from Anthikad village of Thrissur district. Subrahmaniyam and Chemmani Premavathi are his parents. He has three siblings of whom his brother Anil Kumar is no more. He is married to advocate Rekha Sukumar and the couple has one son, Niranjan – a high school student right now. Sunil entered politics during school days. He became a member of All India Students Federation while studying in high school. Since then he grew to a popular young leader of Thrissur and rose to state level of DYFI and SFI. He became a member of CPI Thrissur district committee, state executive member, party national council member etc. He completed graduation from Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur in 1987.

As a young political leader he is known for leading many strikes from front end. As a youth leader he has been a representative of youth conferences held at Cuba in 1997 and Venezuela in 2000. He is closely associated with strikes and strong protests against Palmolein Oil Import Scam, Bar case, and many cases related to environmental issues including paddy fields and wet land conversion. He is known for his efforts against the conversion of Chandipuli Paddy Fields and wetlands.
