V. Muraleedharan Biography

V. Muraleedharan is an Indian politician belonging to Bharatiya Janata party. He hails from Thalassery in Kannur District, Kerala. He is the eighth State President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala. He served the position during the term, 2010-2015. Earlier he served as the vice president of Bharatiya Janata party in Kerala (2006-2010). He got actively associated with the party since early 1980s, and has played a significant role in popularizing the party among the Malayali citizens over the years. He served as the All India Secretary, ABVP (1987-1990) and All India General Secretary, ABVP during 1994-1996.

He was born on 12 December 1958 at Eranjoli, Thalassery in Kannur District. Vannathanveetil Gopalan and Nampally Vellamvelly Devaki are his parents. He completed graduation in English Literature from Govt. Brennan College, Thalassery. He was associated with ABVP since his school days. He got actively involved with politics when Emergency period was imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He became the Kannur District Secretary of ABVP in 1979, and since then he fully dedicated and took efforts for building the party in the south Indian state.

Following his father’s death he took the government job of LD Clerk at Kannur to financially support his family. He later shifted his activities to the RSS karyalay at Kozhikode, and became a fulltime ABVP worker. His formal entry as a leader of the party took place during 1998 Lok Sabha Elections. He was deputed to assist prominent leader Venkaih Naidu at Delhi. In 1999, Vajpayee appointed him as Vice Chairman of Nehru Yuva Kendra. Since then he rose to the prominent levels of administration. In 2016 state assembly elections he unsuccessfully contested from Kazhakoottam constituency of Thiruvananthapuram.
