Uttej Biography

Uttej is a popular actor and writer of Telugu silver screen. He is the nephew of popular Telugu lyricist - Suddala Ashok Teja. He was introduced to filmscreen by Ram Gopal Varma with the Telugu cult classic Siva in 1989. The movie was also released in Hindi. Since then he has spent more than 25 years in Telugu film industry. Uttej has portrayed varying roles over the years and has excelled as a comedian too. He received Nandi Award for best comedian for the movie – Chandamama. Uttej has also worked in Telugu film industry as an assistant director for many years. Jalsa (2008), Shiva (1989) and Ra Cha (2012) are among his noted works and he has portrayed over 100 roles on screen.

His daughter has also acted as a child artist for the movie, Chitram (2000) directed by Teja. She is to enter silver screen as a lead actress soon, through the horror film – She. It was Uttej who was instrumental in giving the first drunkard role to the popular comedian Thagubothu Ramesh, through the movie – Mahatma. He played the role of a Movie Theater Operator in his recent release - Drushyam, starring Daggubati Venkatesh, Meena and Nadhiya.

He was born in Nalgonda of present-day Telangana state. Krishna Vamsi was his mentor to silver screen. He introduced Uttej to Ram Gopal Varma, who gave him his first break to silver screen. In fact it was RGV’s debut film too. Uttej played the bit role of a canteen boy in this film. After playing numerous less significant roles, he got success as a comedian. Classmates, Tappuchesi Pappu Koodu, Dhairyam, GajibijiKrishna, Maa Annayya Bangaram, Maayadaari, Vinodam, Gaayam, Kutumbam, Dhada, Mahatma, Nee Sukhame Korukunna, Shadow etc are some of his film roles.
