Ushanandini Biography

Ushanandini is a noted film heroine of late 1960’s and 1970’s. She played lead role in acclaimed movies like Nagarame Nandi (1967), Aval (1967), Padunna Puzha (1968), Olavum Theeravum (1970), Ashwathi (1974), Makane Ninakku Vendi (1971), Aa Chithrashalabham Parannotte (1970), Sathyathinte Nizhalil (1975) and Pattaabhishekam (1974). She has also played lead roles in a few Tamil movies. She was casted as leading heroine opposite Sivaji Ganesan in Rajapart Rangadurai and Gauravam. Veettukoru Pillai (1971), Manidanum Deiva magalam (1975), Ennai Pol Oruvan (1978) and Veetukkaari Pillai (1973) are other noted appearances. She played lead role opposite Jaishankar in Athaiya Mamiya.

She was born in 1951 at Kaleshwarem, Thiruvananthapuram. She entered film field after completing graduation degree. Aval, released in 1967 marked the debut of this actress as a heroine. This movie was a major hit and very soon, many opportunities – both in Tamil and Malayalam came poured in. During early 1970’s, she was at the peak of her career doing a couple of Tamil movies with Sivaji Ganesan. She was busy in Malayalam movies as well. She played lead role opposite Madhu in the first Malayalam movie shot outdoor, Olavum Theeravum (1970). Nagarame Nandi opposite Prem Nazir was anoted movie worth mentioning. It was one of the best social movies produced in Malayalam as per critics’ opinion.

After 1976, her career started declining. She was most active during the period 1973 to 1976. Rajapart Rangadurai and Gauravam are the most noted Tamil movies. Rajapart Rangadurai directed by P. madhavan was released in 1973 in which she got opportunity to work opposite Shivaji Ganesan. She also played lead role opposite Shivaji Ganesan in Gauravam the same year.
