Udham Singh Biography 
Udham Singh was a National level hockey player of Indian team. He has played in 1952 Summer Olympics Helsinki, 1956 Summer Olympics Melbourne, 1960 Summer Olympics Rome and 1964 Summer Olympics Tokyo. As a member of team India, he has won three gold and a silver medals at Olympic game; a unique record by any hockey player. He is known to be one of the finest Hockey players India has ever produced and Indian government has honoured him with Arjuna Award for his outstanding contributions to Indian hockey. He shares a record with Leslie Claudius, being one among the two players to win 3 Olympic gold and 1 silver at Olympic games. Thus he has been one of the great names in Indian historical wins in the game of hockey. He was a Half Back of the team and has also played in Left Inside, Right Inside, Center Forward and Center Half positions.
He was born on 4th August 1928 at Sansarpur village of Punjab. He studied at Victor High School and DAV College, Jalandhar. His height is only 5 feet 6 inches. Yet this physic never affected his game. He became the captain of his college team in 1947. He was recruited by the Punjab Police the same year. He played 28 years for the same team. He became Captain of the State Hockey team of Punjab in 1954.
His Olympics debut would have happened in 1948 in London. But due to a finger injury he missed the chance. He played in a Hockey Series against Afghanistan in 1949 and played a significant role in team’s victory. He also played in Indian Hockey squad at Helsinki Olympics 1952. Later he became a part of success team of Melbourne Olympics 1956, Rome Olympics 1960 and his 4th and last Tokyo Olympics 1964. After retirement he became the coach of Indian team and his team got earned a Silver Medal at Mexico Olympics 1968 and Bangkok Asian Games 1970.
