Udayan Mukherjee Biography

Udayan Mukherjee is one of the most prominent television anchors of Indian television. He has been a part of CNBC-TV 18 for the past 15 years, since this business channel has started and has played a significant role in placing this channel as number one business channel of India. Though CNBC TV 18 is noted for the hot female anchors, Udayan is a single male exception that can be added to this list. At present, Udayan is the star anchor and managing editor of this business channel. He is the first full-fledged market commentator Indian business television. As per latest reports, Udayan Mukherjee, has decided to step down from his full-time role, after 15 years with the Network18 Group. Shereen Bhan is to take over his role as channel’s managing editor from September 1.

Udayan joined CNBC 15 years ago at the age of 25 and now he is 40. There was hardly any dedicated business channel or live stock market commentary before he conquered the business channel world.   Though business journalism had developed enough it was not popular over television and online stock trading was also not familiar that time when computers and internet have just begun to become a part of daily human’s life. Through his powerful control over language, depth of knowledge and polite talk, he won everyone’s heart and very soon he became the central vein of the channel. To place CNBC as no.1 business channel of India, contributions given by Udayan is immensely huge.

He along with Mitali Mukherjee were seen together in many important programs like morning bell and closing bell and their close association and chemistry was the highlight of the leading shows too. Many people even misinterpret them to be husband and wife since both have a ‘Mukherjee’ tag associated with them. Their live market shows have always received high rating as well.

Mukherjee’s qualification is B.Sc in Economics from Presidency College, Kolkata and an MA in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is an economist by training and has worked for UTV before joining CNBC. Now onwards we can’t see him as a full time editor. Udayan has been facing issues of professional exhaustion and wants to devote more time to other pursuits of personal interest. However, he will continue his exclusive association with the group in consulting role, through a mix of events, shows and appearances. Wishing him all the very best in his new role.
