Uday Satpathy is a young thriller novelist, associated with English novels. Satpathy's first book Brutal, a crime thriller, was published in 2015. The book became a best seller, and the author is still known for this book. The book is credited to be India's first crowd-curated novel. The book was selected for publication based on open reviews, popularity and critical acclaim for its manuscript on Bloody Good Book's website. The book went viral among online readers when he took part in an online contest. He is an IT expert-turned-author. Currently he is based in New Jersey.

Uday completed his electrical engineering degree from VSSUT, Burla in 2006. Later he did a diploma course in Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, and pursued a career in IT field. He has worked with some of the leading IT companies of the country, not as software professional, but associated with Healthcare and Pharmaceutical sectors. Since childhood he was a great reader, and he loved thriller works most. His debut work, Brutal, originally published online went viral over net, and received overwhelming response from readers, who loved thrillers. He turned a successful writer at the age of 31, publishing his first book in 2015.

His father worked in several industrial sectors and hence, as a part of his job the family travelled across India. Since young he observed geopolitics of India up and close. Being a fan of Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy, it was pre-decided that he would write thrillers. Brutal has all these elements with his added imagination.  He also used a lot of scientific advancements in the plot which made it an instant hit. he completed the book two years before the contest.
