U. K. Murali Biography

U. K. Murali is a music director and singer associated with south Indian movies, who along with his brother introduced light music orchestra "Udhaya Raagam" in 1985, one of the leading orchestra of this type. He received the Best Orchestra Award for three years consecutively. He is also a stage performer and conducts programs worldwide and is one of the prominent names of cine light music. Udhaya Raagam has captivated the hearts of music lovers for more than a decade, which specifies the “Rising of Ragas” from talented and versatile musicians.

 

Murali is known for continuously singing for 18 hours nonstop in 25 different voices performed at Kamarajar Arangam Chennai. Now he is preparing to sing for 20 hours with many leading playback singers of the industry. Karishma 95 Award, MGR Cultural Academy Award, Lions Club International Citation, Ajantha Awards, Priyam Awards, Tamil nadu Cinema Kalaimandram, Ishwaryam Award, Ajantha Best Orchestra Award and Kaviarasar Kannadasan Award are the major honours received by him.

 

Murali started performing since college days and his talent was noticed by none other than his parents who encouraged him a lot. He participated in several singing competitions since his college days. But his dream was to play cricket and he became a second division league player in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. He kept live both his interests and travelled on both boats at the same time. Later he had to choose one from the two dreams and he chose music over cricket. He, along with his brother U. K. Manoj was the backbone behind the grand success of this orchestra, introduced Udhaya Raagam in the year 1985.
