Thirush Kamini Biography

Thirush Kamini is an Indian female cricketer from Tamil Nadu who has been a member of women’s national team. She has represented India in 38 ODI matches between 2009 and 2016 and has also played two test matches in the year 2014. She is a striker batswoman to her team, who bats left-hand. She has scored a total of 815 runs from 38 ODI and 237 runs from just two test matches which includes one test century as well. She has also scored 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries in ODIs. She played 3 T20 matches with 56 being her highest score. Thirushkamini is the only woman cricketer to have won BCCI Player of the Year on three occasions.

 

Her full name is Murugesan Dickeshwashankar Thirush Kamini. This gifted young player was born on 30 July 1990 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She started playing cricket at the age of 6, and when her father noticed her talent, he started coaching her. This child prodigy became a member of Under 16 Tamil Nadu state team when she was only 8. She represented senior state team at the age of 10. From there on she has played domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu teams during her teens.

 

She was a member of Under 21 India that toured Pakistan and also won Woman of the Match. She was just 15 then. She became a member of national team at the age of only 16. She also won Woman of the Series in her debut tournament, followed by Allan Border Gavaskar scholarship in 2007 under which she received intense training from Australia. She won BCCI Junior Player of the Year for 2007-2008, Senior Player of the Year for 2009-2010 and 2012-2013. Her father Dickshwashankar is a hockey player who coached her initially.
