The Great Khali Biography

Dalip Singh Rana, better known by his ring name ‘The Great Khali’, is an Indian professional wrestler and powerlifter. He occasionally acts in movies as well. In 2007 he became the World Heavyweight Champion. He is currently working for WWE. He appeared in a cameo role in Priyadarshan’s comedy, Kusti.


Singh was born in Dhirana, Himachal Pradesh, to Jwala Ram and Tandi Devi on 27 August 1972. He suffers from Acromegaly, a disease closely associated with Gigantism that causes facial deformities. Under the ring name Giant Singh, Dalip Singh first became a professional wrestler for All Pro Wrestling in October 2000. He teamed up with Tony Jones against the West Side Playaz. In August 2001, he joined New Japan Pro Wrestling aside Masahiro Chono and Giant Silva, the tallest tag team in professional wrestling history. The two teamed up for the first time at the Tokyo Dome in October under Club 7 label and won the game against Yutaka Yoshie, Kenzo Suzuki, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Wataru Inoue in a Handicap Match. His first loss in a tag match was in January 2002 after Hiroyoshi Tenzan pinned him with a cradle followed by Manabu Nakanishi. But the severe loss was when he was pinned at Tokyo Nippon Budokan.


On 2 January 2006, Singh became the first Indian professional wrestler to be signed to a contract by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for Deep South Wrestling. Unnamed Singh debuted on WWE television on the 7 April 2006 episode of SmackDown! The next week he was introduced as The Great Khali. Now he is known by the name, ‘The Great Khali’ by the whole world. From October 2010 until the final in January 2011, Khali appeared on the television reality show Bigg Boss where he finished second. He appeared on the Disney Channel’s Pair of Kings as Atog, a rock-smashing giant, in the episode "Fight School". He has also appeared in a couple of Bollywood movies and four Hollywood movies.
