Tavleen Singh Biography

Tavleen Singh is an Indian writer, columnist and political reporter from Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. She owns a very successful career as a journalist and has worked with some of the leading English dailies of the country; The Statesman, The Telegraph, India Today and The Indian Express to name a few. She also worked as South Asia correspondent of the Sunday Times, London in the late 1980s. Tavleen was briefly married to the late Pakistani politician Salman Taseer, and their son Aatish Taseer is a famous writer and journalist. She has been living with noted author Ajit Gulabchand for more than 25 years.

 

Tavleen Singh hails from Uttarakhand. She was born in the year 1950. After completing her schooling, she did a short-term Journalism course from the New Delhi Polytechnic in 1969, before doing graduation. After studying in India, she moved to England in search of job opportunities, and initially she worked as a reporter at the Evening Mail.  That was the beginning of her glorious career as a journalist. She also received 2.5 years training during her stint with the daily, which helped her a lot to learn more about the field.

 

Singh returned to India in 1974. In India she began her career with The Statesman as a reporter, and worked with the newspaper for 8 years till 1982 before she moved to The Telegraph as a Special Correspondent. She also had a brief stint as South Asia correspondent of the Sunday Times, London twice in the 1980s. After that she became a freelancer and worked for India Today and The Indian Express. In the 1990s she began her career with news channels of Indian television, and has interviewed and interacted with many leading politicians across the country.
