Tarun Mansukhani Biography

Tarun Mansukhani is a film director associated with Bollywood, who shot to fame with his debut flick Dostana in 2008. He also wrote its screenplay. The movie starring Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Kapoor in key roles was a blockbuster hit and emerged as one of the biggest hits of these actors’ career. The comedy film was noticed for its unique subject, which has been rarely explored on Bollywood screen before in a comic way. Though there were speculations that the movie will have a sequel titled Dostana 2, the project is still in pipeline. Karan Johar’s protégée, Tarun is known for his long-term association with him since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai happened.

Despite getting such favourable responses for his debut film, Tarun Mansukhani has never directed any movie in the past 10 years. Animated film, Koochie Koochie Hota Hai is yet another directorial venture of the director. However the movie’s release got delayed for some reasons. It is an animated remake of the hit 1998 Hindi film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, with voices of some of the leading actors of Bollywood including the original lead actors of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Currently the director is working on the project, Drive starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Jacqueline Fernandez, Vikramjeet Virk and Sapna Pabbi. The movie produced by Karan Johar is slated to release in September 2018.

The director is known for his association with association with Karan Johar and his production house, and has been associated with him since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai days in 1998, when he started his career as an assistant director under the maiden project of Karan Johar. Later he worked as an assistant under Karan Johar for both his projects - Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, till he marked his directorial debut with Dostana in 2008. His rest two movies and also Dostana were financed by Karan Johar. Tarun belongs to a Sindhi family.
