Tara Deshpande Tennebaum is a former model and actress of Bollywood who was mostly active in the era of late 1990’s and early 2000’s. She was a former Video Jockey and is also known as a writer. She acted in critically acclaimed Bollywood movies of 1990’s - Sudhir Mishra's Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin and Kaizad Gustad's Bombay Boys and played lead role aside Marc Robinson and Shabana Azmi in 1998 movie, Bada Din. She has also played supporting roles in movies like Style, Encounter, Tapish etc. She is married to an American citizen and moved to Boston in 2001 and she is currently busy in catering business. Her husband is in the finance field and got graduated from Harvard Business School.

 

Tara was born into a business family in Mumbai on 8 December 1975. Her paternal grandfather Prabhakar Raghunath Deshpande is the ex-chairman of Crompton Greaves, one of India's longest running CEO'S. Her maternal grandfather was PVSM V. Admiral Kamlakar Rao Laxman Rao Kulkarni, Chief of Eastern Naval Command. Tara started writing at a younger age and got published her first book at the age of 23. Before entering Bollywood, she has been a successful theater actress and MTV VJ at Mumbai. She was well known as a model too. She played the lead role of Alyque Padamsee's play Begum Sumroo.

 

She made her Bollywood debut in the year 1996 with the critically acclaimed movie, Is raat ki subah nahin. She played the role of the beautiful wife of an ad-executive, the character played by Nirmal Pandey. In 1998, she played lead role in two more critically acclaimed movies, Bombay Boys and Bada Din. She is the author of bestseller of 2012, A Sense for Spice: Recipes and Stories from a Konkan Kitchen. 50 and Done: Stories and Verse was her 1999 published book.
