Tanu Roy Biography

Tanu Roy is a south Indian actress who appears in all south Indian language movies. A Bengali in birth, she also has acted in a few Bengali movies. Her item numbers in films like Mass and Hero are very popular. She played the lead role in 2012 trendsetter and critically acclaimed Malayalam movie, Ee adutha Kaalathu, directed by Arun Kumar Aravind. She played the role of a housewife, Madhuri Kurien who worked in Bollywood earlier. It was her debut Malayalam movie also, in which she portrayed a typical wife role, though she has been noticed for glamour roles in south Indian movies before.

She was born and brought up in Kolkata. She has the direct influence of her father, who runs a ‘small music school' at Kolkata. Though she has been a good singer, she concentrated to become an actress. She completed graduation in mathematics, her favourite subject. She made her acting debut in 2001 with Telugu movie, Itlu Sravani Subramanyam where she played the lead role of Sravani opposite Ravi Teja. The main plot of this movie was later used by Bollywood flick – Anjana Anjani. But later she started doing supporting roles for movies like Avunu Nijame, Anandam, Keelugurram and Manasantha Nuvve.

But she moved towards B-grade movies and also appeared in many item songs. She also acted in two Bengali films Basho Na and Moner Majho Tumhi. Her debut Kannada movie, Preethi Maadabaaradu got shelved. But she made her debut in Tamil cinema through Intru and Girivalam. Girivalam is the remake of Humraaz, where Tanu reprised the role of Amisha patel. It was her debut Malayalam movie which gave her big break to her acting career. Ee Adutha Kaalathu promised her a bright career in Malayalam and offered many roles as well.
