Tannishtha Chatterjee is an Indian actress known for offbeat roles and has been associated with many international projects. Her movies often take part in many international awards and win awards as well. She is best known in the West for her performance in the British film Brick Lane (2007). She was nominated for the British Independent Film Awards as the best actress for the same role. Florian Gallenberger's film, Shadows of Time is another noted international work. For Bibar she won Best Actress award at the 2006 Osian Film Festival and the 2007 BFJA awards. Road, Movie aside Abhay Deol is another noted work of Chatterjee. Her much awaited project, Gulaab Gang will be released this 2013, where she will appear aside top two actresses of 1990’s – Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla. I Love New Year, Dekh Indian Circus, Chauranga, Monsoon Shootout, Sunrise and Bhopal: Prayer for Rain are a few more upcoming projects of this talented actress.

Chatterjee was born in Pune to a Bengali family. Her father was a business executive and her mother was a political science professor. After completing graduation at Delhi University she joined National School of Drama. After completion of course, she worked with many directors India and abroad. Her debut movie was Swaraj, released in the year 2001. She has appeared in movies - Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid, Jal, Road: the movie, Brick lane, Barah ana,Bombay summer, Anna Karenina and White elephant.

Apart from numerous international awards, she has also won MIAAC Film Festival awards in 2009 In New York- Best actress for Bombay Summe, BFJA-Most Promising Actress Award 2007 for Bibar and National Film Award (Special Mention) - Dekh Indian Circus. She also won NYIFF Indo-American Arts Council best actress award for the same role. She is a trained Hindustani classical vocalist and has sang for movies like Road, Page 3 and a few more movies.
