Tanikella Bharani Biography

Tanikella Bharani is a multifaceted personality of Indian art. He has been associated with literature as well as cinema. He is an actor, editor, playwright, screenwriter as well as film director of Telugu cinema. He has received three Nandi awards in three distinct categories till now – Siva (Best Dialogue Writer), Samudhram (Best Villain) and Nuvvu Nenu (Best character artist). Most recently he received Special Jury Award for Best Director at CineMAA Awards for 2013 movie, Mithunam. His short films have also been showcased at several international film festivals and have been recognized in the form of awards too. He has been honoured with Sangam Academy award for completing Twenty five years in Telugu Cinema. As a writer, his works include spiritual books and plays too. He played lead role in 1999 Bollywood comedy movie - Main Tere Pyar Mein Pagal.



He was born in Secunderabad to T. V. V Setu Ramalingeswar Rao and Laxminarasamma in the year 1956. He was born in a family of literals with Divakarla Tirupati Sastry, Diwakarla Venkatavadhani and Viswanatha Satyanarayana being the leading names. After graduation in commerce, he obtained a diploma in Theatre Arts. He has already started his literal career. He got active in theatre with mid-1970. Actor Rallapalli helped him to get break into theatre industry where Bharani started with writing small dialogues and stage scenes. Later Rallapalli advised him to move to Chennai.



He entered film industry as a dialogue writer for 1984 movie, Kanchu Kavachum. It was followed by Ladies Tailor, Varasudochhadu, ChettuKinda Pleader and Swara Kalpana as a dialogue writer. He also wrote lyrics for the movie, Gundammagaari Manavadu. He made his acting debut in the year 1985 with Ladies Tailor. Till now he has done more than 500 movies. He played the role of Nanaji in Ram Gopal Varma’s Siva, which earned him critics’ appreciation. Now he is portraying mature character roles in Telugu cinema.
