T. Padma Rao Goud Biography

T. Padma Rao Goud is an Indian politician and Member of Legislative Assembly from the south Indian state of Telangana. He currently serves as minister of Excise and Prohibition, Sports and Youth Services Minister of Government of Telangana, and is the first minister of these portfolios. He was one of the members in Telangana Rashtra Samithi, with a single point agenda of creating a separate Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital. The party carried agitation within the state which finally resulted in separate statehood for Telangana.

Padma Rao was born on 7 April 1954 in Secunderabad, Hyderabad. His school and college education were completed at Secunderabad before he joined active politics. He is married to Swarupa Rani and has 6 children. He has served as a Municipal Councillor in Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. He joined TRS party in 2001, which propelled the movement of separate statehood for Telangana. He got elected to state assembly for the first time in 2004 Assembly Election from Secunderabad Assembly constituency. In 2009 he was given party ticket from Sanathnagar, to get defeated by Congress candidate, Marri Shashidhar Reddy.

After the formation of new statehood, he got elected to legislative assembly from Secunderabad and was inducted to cabinet as the first minister of Excise and Prohibition, Sports and Youth Services Minister in the Government of Telangana. This minister has been tangled into controversies for multiple reasons. His son T. Rameswar Goud and his associates beat up a shop owner and vandalised his shop at Pot Market in Secunderabad during a row over demolitions in 2017. He created headlines by displaying liquor bottles in Secretariat to show that government sells liquor in cheaper rates. His interrogation of an unmarried woman excise inspector at Karimnagar also irked many.
