T. K. Kala Biography 
T. K. Kala is a singer, voice actor and actress associated with Tamil cinema. She is the daughter of famous character artist Shanmugasundari who has worked in more than 750 Tamil films and excelled in comic roles. Her father Thiruchi Loganathan was a singer and Kala has 4 sisters. Among the sisters, only Kala had a successful career in the cine world, and she got success as an actress as well as singer. Like her mother, she also received the prestigious Kalaimamani award in 2006 for her contributions towards Tamil art and cinema.
T. K. Kala was born into a family of artists, linked to cine world. Her father was a singer and her mother was an actress. Kala got inclined towards music since young and received training in Carnatic music at a young age. She started her career as a playback singer at a very young age. She became the ghost voice for child actors on screen, singing for them. She later became a film actress and dubbing artist too. She made her singing debut in the 1972 film "Agathiyar" with the song "Thayir sirandha kovilum illai". She was given the first break as a playback singer by A. P. Nagarajan. She sang numerous songs as a child artist in the 1970s.
She returned back to films as a senior singer in the 1990s. As a playback singer for original score, she was given the first break by A. R. Rahman for 1993 film, Kizhakku Cheemayile. She rendered her voice for the song, Edhukku Pondatti. In 1994 Rahman gave six songs to Kala which include - Kulicha Kutralam of Duet, Araro Ariraro of Karuththamma and its Telugu version and Adi Paru Mangatha of May Madham. However she received only lesser singing opportunities later, and she turned to acting. As a film actress she had a late entry to films playing mother roles. She got her first break to big screen through 2004 Tamil movie, Ghilli playing Prakash Raj's mother. From there on, she got numerous mother roles which she accepted.
