Susi Ganeshan Biography

Susi Ganeshan is a film Director, Producer and screenwriter belonging to Kollywood, Tamil film industry. Virumbugiren in 2000 marked his debut as a director in Tamil film industry with newcomer Sneha and Prashanth. The movie was screened at the Kuala Lumpur World Film Festival 2003 and won Best film, the Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards at Tamil Nadu state awards. His second project, Five Star (2002) also introduced newcomers, including Five Star Krishna and bagged best story award at state awards. Thiruttu Payale in 2009 was his third movie. But he is known most for the high-budget movie, Kanthaswamy with Vikram in lead role and a plot similar to Vikram’s blockbuster of 2005 – Aniyan. In 2013, he debut Bollywood with Shortcut Romeo – remake of Thiruttu Payale. But the movie was a commercial failure.

He was born in Vannivelampatti, Madurai District to Subbiah and Sittappa. His real name is Ganeshan Subbaiya and took screen name – Susi, taking first letters from parents’ name. He graduated from Madras Institute of Technology in automobile engineering. While at college, he published many articles for the Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan. He was also chairman of ATHENAEUM, the student body of the Madras Institute of Technology. After college days, he joined as assistant director of Tamil film industry. He worked as assistant to Mani Ratnam for the movies, Bombay (1995), Iruvar (1997) and Dil Se.. (1998).

Critically acclaimed movie, Virumbugiren in 2000 marked his successful debut which gave him Tamil Nadu state award for best director. His second movie, Five Star earned him the Best story State award. His third movie Thiruttu Payale in 2006 received Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Film. His debut Bollywood movie, Shortcut Romeo starred Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ameesha Patel and Puja Gupta in lead roles.
