Sushma Seth is a successful Bollywood actress known for portraying powerful mother roles. She is a successful television actor and stage actor also. She started her career in the late 1970s and most popular for portraying mother, mother-in-law and grandmother roles. She also acts as a rich and powerful mother in most of those roles. She has worked in numerous movies as Rishi Kapoor’s mother; Deewana and Bol Radha Bol are the most memorable roles. She has also worked with Rishi Kapoor in movies like Tawaif, Chandini, Prem rog, Ajooba and Nagina.

As an actress, her other memorable roles include – Daag: the fire, Dil aashna hai, 1942: A love story, Silsila, Pyar Kiya Hai Pyar Karenge, Gharana, Jaanbaaz, Kalyug, Naukar biwi ka, Swami dada, Kareeb, Taal, Suryaa: An Awakening, Jawani Zindabad, Bade miya chote miya, Chal mere bhai, Kal ho na ho, Student of the year, Shikari, Moksha, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and First love letter. Her memorable television roles are Bol Radha bol and Hum log. Hum log was a story of village of Bihar and unity of five women, who form a strong nucleus that opposes injustice.

Sushma Seth was brought up in Delhi. She completed her schooling from Convent of Jesus and Mary, New Delhi. She did a teachers training diploma in home science and later completed Bachelor degree in arts.  Sushma entered film world during late 70’s in character role and her first noted role was Yash Chopra’s Silsila in the year 1981. From there on, she played numerous roles. Yet her portrayal of stubborn mother or landlord clicked most. She rarely appears with tears onscreen, a new definition of Bollywood mothers till then. She has worked with Raj Kapoor and Yash Chopra of yesterdays and Karan Johar of present cinema. Her cracking chemistry with Dhara Singh and the comic scenes of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum are very interesting.
