Sushil Kohli Biography

Sushil Kohli is a former Indian swimmer and water polo player who received a bronze medal at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi. He is the son of Mulkh Raj Kohli, who started Beat All Sports (BAS). For his outstanding contributions to Indian sports, he has been honoured with Dhyan Chand Award in the year 2011 by Government of India. He is also a recipient of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award for Swimming, given by Government of Punjab in 1978. He owns a sports manufacturing unit in Jalandhar. Noted cricketer and IPL player, Taruwar Kohli is his son. He is also a triple century scorer at Ranji Trophy.

 

Sushil was born on 19 April 1953 in Jalandhar, Punjab. Kohli got associated with swimming events in the 1970s and was at his career peak in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He served as the captain of his Swimming Event team for the first Asian Swimming Championships held at Dhaka in the year 1980 and was awarded a silver medal at the event. When Asian Games was held at Delhi in 1982, this ace swimmer from Punjab won a bronze medal in the event. He is the only aquatic player in India who played swimming and water polo simultaneously, not only at the national but also at the international level.

 

After retirement from the active events of sports, he started his wonderful career as a coach. He was also associated with District Swimming Association as its general secretary. He serves as Vice President of Punjab Swimming Association, apart from holding several elite positions in several Swimming associations of Punjab. He also serves as a member of selection committee.
