Sushanth Mathew Biography

Sushanth Mathew is an Indian professional footballer associated with professional clubs, and also played for Indian Super League - professional football league in India. He played as a midfielder for the Kerala Blasters in ISL, and was also associated with FC Pune City before. Currently he plays as a Defender and Midfielder for Gokulam Kerala FC in the I-League. FC Kochin, Vasco, Mahindra United, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Rangdajied United and NEROCA FC are some of the teams with which Mathew played earlier. In January 2017, Sushant joined the newly formed team, Gokulam Kerala FC, a football club based in Kozhikode, Kerala.

 

Sushanth Mathew hails from Wayanad, Kerala. Ambalavayal is his native village. He was born on 18 May 1982. Since school days, he showed amazing interest and talent in the game of football and was associated with a local club named the Dyna FC. He graduated from Farook College, Kozhikode. He played football during his college days, and has guided his college football team for many tournaments. Later he got an invitation to play Santosh Trophy at Kochi, for team Kerala. He joined FC Cochin in the season 1997-98, and played for next three seasons. During this time, he got opportunity to play with the veteran footballer I. M. Vijayan. Lawn tennis and basketball are his other favourite sports, except football.

 

He joined Vasco in 2001, marking a new beginning as a senior player. He later moved to Mahindra United and East Bengal, before joining Mohun Bagan. If he has not joined football, he would have preferred army as his career choice. Outside football, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in tennis and Kobe Bryant in basketball are some of his favourite sportspersons.
