Surya (telugu Actor) Biography

Surya Kumar Bhagvandas, known by the screen name Surya is a popular actor associated with Telugu cinema known for playing supporting roles. He started his film journey with Telugu movie Vikram (1985), and in a career spanning to more than three decades, Surya has acted in more than 500 films and many television soaps also. He also received four Nandi awards throughout his acting career. Magadheera, Premaku Swagatam, Shankardada MBBS, Show, Oohalu Gusagusalade, Tammudu, Srimanthudu, Sahasam, Sindhooram and Premaku velayara are some of his popular roles.

Surya’s father Lt. Col. R. D. Bhagvandas worked with Indian Army. He was born in Pune on 27 July 1957. His mother was a lawyer. But later the family moved to Hyderabad in 1970. His father was asmetic and the doctor suggested him to move to a dry place. Once settled in Hyderabad they started a school called 'Trinity Public School. Surya was into teaching job for 28 years before he got actively involved with films. Surya made his first screen appearance as one of Nagarjuna's buddies in Vikram. For the next 10 years he struggled to get good roles. His roles in Tammudu and Sindhooram – movies of late 1990s gave him the real break he was awaiting for. Since then he played many meaty and memorable roles of his career.

He earned his first Nandi award in the year 1990. It was for a negative role in television. In 1997 he earned his second Nandi award for best actor in a supporting role (television). In 2002, he was nominated in the best supporting category at National awards for the performance in ‘Show’. But the award later went to Atul Kulkarni, which made Surya disappointed. But he earned a special jury Nandi award for his performance in the film. The actor never took any formal training in acting.
