Suruli Manohar Biography

Suruli Manohar was a popular comedian associated with Tamil cinema and television. Known for his comic roles as an actor, he has also directed one film, Iyakkunar. His supporting roles in Sura, Padikkadavan etc were well appreciated. He has been a part of numerous comedy tracks in many films in the 2000s. He passed away battling with cancer on 7 Aug 2014 in Chennai. He was undergoing treatment for a long time. One of his delayed films, Samuga Valaithalam had a theatric release in 2018, almost 4 years after his death.

Suruli Manohar was married to Pachaiamma. The couple had three daughters. He started off with television shows, and later moved to big screen roles. Suruli Manohar has done numerous side roles apart from comic ones. Yet he gained recognition through the comic roles he played onscreen such as E, Padikkadavan, Thoranai, Sura etc. In the movie Gilli, he played the side role of Prakash Raj’s father’s PA.

His maiden directorial venture, Iyakkunar was completed one year prior to his death. Soon after the completion of work he got ill and couldn’t see the release of the movie. He was admitted in a hospital in Chennai for the last few months. He died on 7 Aug 2014, survived by his wife and three daughters. His death came as a big shock to the film fraternity.
