Surjit Singh Randhawa Biography 
Surjit Singh Randhawa was a former captain of Indian hockey team. He played for India national field hockey team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He was a full back hockey player. His wife Chanchal Randhawa was also international field hockey player. She has also led Indian team during 1970’s. His Son Sarbrinder Singh Randhawa was a Lawn Tennis Player who has played in many international matches. He was the runner-up at Asian games held at Indonesia. He has played for India in the Munich Olympics in 1972, the 1974 and 1978 Asian Games, the 1976 Montreal Olympics, the Asian Games in 1978, and the 1982 World Cup.
Sardar Surjit Singh Randhawa was born on October 10, 1951 in Batala, Punjab. He studied at Guru Nanak School of his hometown. He later studied at Lyallpur Khalsa College at Jalandhar where he used to play at college games. He started playing University level hockey matches. Soon after college, he joined the Punjab Police Force and worked for a few years. He made his debut in the second Hockey World Cup in Amsterdam in 1973. Later he has represented Indian team in Asian Games, World cup and Munich games, throughout 1970’s.
He was included in the World Hockey XI in 1973 and the All-Star Hockey XI the next year. He was a part of the winning team in 1975 Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. He was also the top scorer-both in the Esanda International hockey Tournament at Perth and the 1978 Asian Games. But he was able to score only 4 Olympic goals throughout his career. He died in a car accident in 1984 after his retirement. He was only 32 then! He was posthumously awarded the Arjuna Award in 1998.
