Suresh Gopi Biography

Suresh Gopi is an Indian film actor who concentrates in Malayalam cinema industry. He is notable for his roles in police dramas. He acts both in lead roles and character roles and is noted for his philanthropy.

He was born on 26^th June 1960 in Kollam in Kerala. His parents are Gnanalekshmi and Gopinathan Pillai. He finished his schooling at the Infant Jesus Anglo Indian High School at Thangasseri. He got his graduation in English literature from Fatima Mata National College in Kollam. He married Radhika and has four children, Gokul, Bhagya, Bhavna and Madhav. He is living in Sasthamangalam.

His appearance in films started as a child artist when he acted in the film Odeyil Ninnu in 1965. His acting career restarted in the mid 80s with Sathyan Anthikkad’s film T. P. Balagopalan M. A. in 1986. Then he played supporting roles and villain roles in some films. Some of the roles that he acted are Balan in the film Nandi Veendum Varika in 1986, Kumar in Rajavinte Makan in 1986, Shekaran Kutty in the film Irupatham Noottandu in 1987, Vinod in January Oru Orma in 1987, etc.

Some of the films in which he played lead roles are Thalastaanam, Ekalavyan, Mafia, Commissioner and he played character roles in the films like Paithrukam, Manichithrathazhu, Samooham, Sindoora Rekha, etc. He played the role of police officer in the films City Police, The City, Rudraksham, Kashmeeram, and Mahatma. During 90s his films were criticized for excessive violence.

He got National Film Award and Kerala State Film Award in the year 1998 in the Best Actor category for the film Kaliyattam. He also has received Film Critics Best Actor Award three times and Best Supporting Actor Award four times. He is a supporter of Indian National Congress and is close to the politician and former Chief Minister of Kerala K. Karunakaran.
