Sunil Kumar Desai Biography 
Sunil Kumar Desai is a noted film director associated with Kannada film industry. He is known for his talents to blend offbeat and commercial elements to give the best outputs. He has also tried with different genres of film making – from romantic movies to dramas, and from suspense thrillers to action and comedy. A successful director of Kannada film industry, he is a recipient of 4 Filmfare awards. Prior to independent filmmaking he has assisted many senior directors of the industry like Suresh Heblikar, Kashinath etc. He made his directorial debut in the year 1989 with the movie, Tarka which earned him Filmfare Award for Best Director – Kannada. Sunil is mostly associated with thrillers and murder mystery type of movies.
He was born on November 22, 1955 in Bijapur, Karnataka. His school education was completed at his hometown Bijapur and higher education in Pune. In the 1980s he started his career in the film line as an assistant director and made his directorial debut in the year 1989. Since then he has completed 25 years in the industry as an independent director. He is known to be a trendsetter of Kannada cinema.
He received Filmfare best director award for the movies – Tarka (1989), Beladingala Baale (1995), Sparsha (2000), and Karnataka State Film Award for Best Screenplay for the movies - Beladingala Baale (1995) and Nammoora Mandara Hoove (1996). Ramesh Aravind regularly features in his films. Known as a trend-setter in Sandalwood years ago, he took a break from industry in 2007. Two of his movies – Sarigama and Thandana Thandanana got shelved. Currently he is working on a comedy project titled ...Re with Ramesh Aravind and Harshika Poonacha in the lead roles. Thus he is coming back to films after a nine-year break
