Sunil Arora Biography 
Sunil Arora is an Indian administrator, who has been appointed as Chief Election Commissioner of India in November, 2018. Till now he has been serving as an Election Commissioner of India before he was promoted to the position of Chief in the last week of November. He has formerly served as a secretary to the Government of India in two ministries. He is a retired Indian Administrative Service Officer belonging to 1980 batch.
Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Secretary of India between 29 August 2014 and 30 August 2015, Information and Broadcasting Secretary of India between 31 August 2015 and 30 April 2016, and Director General and CEO of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs between 19 December 2016 and 31 August 2017 are some of the elite positions held by him earlier. Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Principal Secretary (Small Industries), Principal Secretary (Investment and Protocol), Chairman and managing director of the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation etc are other key positions held by him.
Sunil Arora was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab on 13 April 1956. His father worked in railways, while his mother was a college lecturer. He completed his college studies from Panjab University before he started his career as a college lecturer. Sunil Arora briefly served as an associate professor in DAV College in Jalandhar before he joined Indian Administrative Service in 1980. Arora served in various key positions for both the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan over the years till his retirement.
He was appointed as one of the two Election Commissioners of India on 31 August 2017. On 26 November 2018 Arora was appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner. He takes on the charge on the first week of December after incumbent commissioner OP Rawat retires.
