Sundar Narayana Rao Biography

Sundar Narayana Rao is a young south Indian playback singer who concentrates most on Tamil and Telugu languages. Rao was born and brought up in Tamil Nadu, though he is of Telugu origin. In Tamil, he has sung for music director M Ghibran for almost all projects which include – Amarakaaviyam, Vathikuchi, Kutti Puli, Naiyandi, Praanam Kosam and Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah. Kuru Kuru of Vathikuchi was the first Tamil song which earned him fame, followed by Kanna Kanna belonging to the same movie. " Aatha un Selai " and " Deivam yellam Onnagi " of Kutti puli, "Ae Le Le Etti Paarthale" and  "Marriage Marketil" of Neyyandi and "Chillendra Chillendra" of Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah are some of his popular songs.

 

He was initiated into music at a very young age and he learnt different forms of music, not just classical. He completed graduation in Engineering and in those days, he closely heard and learnt Ustad Aamir Khan’s Hindustani music. It was in those days when he got inclined to Hindustani music and started learning it seriously. He learnt under different gurus of whom, Pandit Madhav Bhatki of Gwalior Gharana needs special mention. He learnt under Pandit Madhav Bhatki for many years. He also learnt Indian semi-classical of different genres, Pakistani classical music, Afghani classical music, Punjabi classical music and Sufiana during his stay at USA.

 

He also learnt Western music under different musicians while he stayed in US. In 2006 he returned to India to get fully engaged with Hindustani music. He also shifted his working base to North India from Chennai. Kuru Kuru and Kanna Kanna from the same movie, “Vathikuchi” released in 2013 proved to his big break to film industry.
