Till 2018 he has acted in 12 Malayalam films, yet earned recognition through the recent flick, Theevandi. He played the memorable role of ‘Driver Bhai’ – Shammi Thilakan’s driver in the film. Shammi appeared as an MLA in the movie. Sumangal Singha Roy is a native of Udalguri district of Assam. Born into a poor family, he came to Kerala 7 years ago with the hope of a better life, similar to many North-East people who come to Kerala for odd jobs. But his appearance in films made him a popular face of Kerala, which he hardly imagined before. Yet he still works at a bakery in Ernakulam South, where he has been working for many years. After the release of Theevandi, he has received many film offers from Mollywood.

Theevandi is his 12th Malayalam release, and in every movie till now, he played the role of an interstate worker. So he is working in a comfort zone till now. Before Theevandi happened he was seen in Masala Republic, not a very small role, and it helped him to get a few more bit roles which didn’t last beyond more than one or two scenes. He was earlier seen in Kanal, Kismat and a few more movies.
