Suma Jayaram Biography

Suma Jayaram is a film and television actress associated with Malayalam entertainment industry in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She is one of the early successful actresses of Malayalam Doordarshan serials. She made her acting debut with 1988 Malayalam movie starring Mohanlal, Ulsavappittennu. She played a supporting role of Malathi in the film. She got a meaty role in Mammootty starrer Kuttetan in 1990. Later she appeared in a few more films of 1990s in supporting roles. But Suma received instant recognition through television serials. She played the female lead of Aruna in the popular series, Aruna (1993), for which she is remembered most. Popular filmmaker Anwad Rashid is her brother-in-law. Aruna’s younger sister is married to Anwar.

 

Naale Ennundenkil, Sthalathe Pradhana Payyans, Naale Ennundenkil, Mazhayethum Munpe, Kanyakumariyil Oru Kavitha, Ekalavyan, Kabuliwala, Vachanam, Congratulations Miss Anitha Menon, Police Diary, Post Box Number 27 and Ente Sooryaputhrikku are among her films of 1990s. She was also seen in Bharthavudyogam, and Ishtam in 2001 and Kasthuriman (2003). She got married to her childhood friend Philip in 2013, and it was something like a dream came true! It was a late marriage. Currently she is settled with her new life and doesn’t want to come back to acting.

 

Since childhood she was interested in acting. She regularly participated in cultural events since her school days. Once her father’s friend informed him that ‘Seven arts film production’ wants a new artist for an upcoming film. Thus she received her first film, Moonnam Mura. She got noticed through the roles she played for the movies – Maalayogam, Ente Soorya Putrikk and Kuttettan. She marked her small screen debut through ‘Aruna’. She shot to fame after playing the lead role for this Doordarshan series. Since then she acted in around 25 television serials and 55 tele-films. When she got bored with the profession, she took a break in the mid-1990s. In the early 2000s, she appeared in a few character roles for Malayalam movies.
