Sulochana Gadgil Biography 
Sulochana Gadgil is an Indian meteorologist and scientist, who works at Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (CAOS) in Bangalore. Oceanography and Meteorology are her major interests. She is best known for her studies related to monsoon and how different farming strategies can cope with the diversity of available rain at different points of time. She is married to famous ecologist and founder of the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Madhav Gadgil best known for his research and surveys related to Western Ghats. The couple has two children.
Sulochana Gadgil hails from Pune, Maharashtra. She was born in 1944. She belongs to a family associated with social activities of some kind. Her great-grandfather was a politician and social worker. Her grandfather and father were physicians. Her grandfather was a freedom fighter too. Her mother was a Marathi writer. Sulochana Gadgil studied from a local school in Pune. For high school studies she moved to Rishi Valley, a boarding school in Andhra Pradesh where she had English education. Then she moved back to her hometown to complete intermediate and graduation.
While doing her graduation, she got engaged to Madhav Gadgil, a fellow student. Later they pursued their education together. Both studied at Harvard University together on a scholarship and pursued their scientific careers together. They got married also. After studies they moved back to India. She worked in the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology as a CSIR pool officer for two years and her colleagues were R. Ananthakrishnan and D.R Sikka. Later she was recruited at Centre for Theoretical Studies along with her husband. After that Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences was also started.
