Sujit Mondal Biography

Sujit Mondal is a noted film director associated with Bengali cinema. He started his career in Bollywood as an associate director with many leading directors like Vikram Bhatt, in the early 2000s and marked his directorial debut in Bengali cinema in 2009. As of now, he has directed around 10 films. Apart from Bawali Unlimited, the rest movies have been remakes of successful films made in Indian languages. Bawali Unlimited, Hero 420, Arundhati, Romeo,             Bolo Na Tumi Aamar, Paglu 2, Shedin Dekha Hoyechilo, Saat Paake Bandha etc are his movies.

 

Sujit Mondal hails from Mumbai, Maharashtra. He started his career as an assistant director to Vikram Bhatt in the year 2001, for the investigation thriller – Kasoor. Prior to his work in Kasoor, he has also worked as chief assistant director in 1998 film, Ghulam directed by Vikram Bhat. After that he was associated with Bhatt camp almost a decade till 2009. Raaz, Jurm, Ankahee etc are some of Vikram Bhatt movies with which Sujit got associated with.

 

With mid-2000s, he worked as an associate director of Vikram Bhatt. He marked his debut as a full-fledged director in 2009 through the Bengali film, Saat Paake Bandha and in the past 8 years has delivered 9 movies. Currently he is known as one of the highly talented technicians of Bengali film industry. His debut film was a remake of 1996 Telugu movie Pavitra Bandham, originally a remake of Bollywood films – Nadiya Ke Paar and Hum Aap Ke Hain Kaun. He mostly remakes south Indian hit films to Bengali language. Hero 420 in 2016 is his recent release. The movie is a remake of 2009 Telugu action film Maska, directed by B. Gopal. Currently he is working on his film 'Anweshan' based on novel of great writer Prafullo Roy.
