Sujatha Singh Biography 
Sujatha Singh is an Indian career diplomat who served as India's Foreign Secretary from August 2013 to January 2015. Previously she had been the Indian Ambassador to Germany for a couple of years and she assumed the charge of Indian career diplomat on 1 August, 2013 succeeding Ranjan Mathai. Sujatha Singh is the daughter of the former Intelligence Bureau chief and former Governor of Sikkhim, T. V. Rajeswar. She is married to Sanjay Singh, who is a retired Indian Foreign Service officer. Sujatha Singh too, is an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1976 batch.
Sujatha Singh was born in July 1954 in Tamil Nadu as the daughter of the former Intelligence Bureau chief T. V. Rajeswar. Her graduation was completed at Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi and the Delhi School of Economics where she became graduated in Economics. She passed Indian Foreign Service in 1976. After that she has served in various positions at the Indian embassies at Bonn, Accra, Paris and Bangkok and was India's Consul General at Milan during the period 2000-2004. Later she served as India's High Commissioner to Australia during the period, 2007-2012. This tenure was marked by turbulence in Indo-Australian ties following racial attacks on Indian students. Australian Labour Party's decision to make an exception for India regarding the sale of uranium was another issue handled during this time.
In Delhi she has worked under Ministry's Economic Co-ordination Unit and dealt with Nepal, West Europe and the EU as different positions like director, undersecretary and joint secretary. Sujatha Singh was chosen as Foreign Secretary over S. Jaishankar in 2013. She assumed office on 1 August, 2013 succeeding Ranjan Mathai. Singh is only the third lady officer to head the Indian diplomatic corps after Chokila Iyer and Nirupama Rao.
