Sudhakar Bokade Biography

Sudhakar Bokade was a leading producer of Bollywood film industry during 1990’s. He has also tried his luck in Marathi movies. Of all his successful movies, most noted one is Saajan, released in the year 1991. Other hits include – Prahaar (1991), Dhanwaan (1993) and Sapne Sajan Ke (1992). Though he has done only a few films, success of Saajan gave him the big break to the industry. He won his single nomination for Best Film at Filmfare too. The movie accumulated 2 awards and 11 nominations at 37^th Filmfare award functions and was one of the top 10 movies grosser of the period - 1990 to 1994.

Sudhakar Bokade started his career during early 90’s. In 1990 he produced two films. Izzatdaar and Nyay Anyay were released in the same year with Madhuri Dixit playing the lead role. Izzatdaar starred big stars like Dilip Kumar, Govinda and Madhuri Dixit. Made on a big budget of 20 million, the movie flopped at the box office. Nyay Anyay also proved to be a disaster. But the next year, he tasted the sweet of success with Sajan. Sajan was a romantic love triangle with story told in an unusual way. This movie proved to be the top hit of the year with its music breaking several records. This movie proved to be one of the big earliest hits of Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt and Salman and nourished their Bollywood careers as well. Recent update is that sequel of Sajan is to be made soon after 22 years with a new set of young actors. Unfortunately its successful producer, Sudhakar Bokade died on July, this year (2013).

His third released movie also starred Madhuri Dixit in leading role, though in a less glamour role. The movie was critically well acclaimed movie – Prahar. Other movies of Bokade as a producer include Dhanwan, Kanyadaan, Sauda and Super model. He died on 7 July 2013 at the age of 57.
