Subhash Shirodkar Biography

Subhash Shirodkar is an Indian politician from Goa currently associated with Bharatiya Janata Party since late 2018. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly representing Siroda constituency 6 times and cabinet minister multiple times as a Congress politician. Shirodkar lost 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly elections only, from the Siroda constituency. He was one of the seniormost Congress leaders since 1980s. However Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte, best known as Lawmakers of Congress Party faxed their resignation letters to Speaker Pramod Sawant in October 2018 and moved to BJP. He remained state party chief of INC for many years, and served as a cabinet minister under many Congress leaders.

 

Subhash Ankush Shirodkar was born on 2 February 1952 in Goa. He remained one of the most senior and veteran Congress leaders from the state of Goa before he recently switched to BJP in late 2018. He has been actively associated with state politics since 1980s. Subhash had a humble beginning in politics associated with local village governance and he reached the position of a cabinet minister. He served as the Sarpanch of the Shiroda Gram Panchayat from 1978 to 1984. He joined active politics after that, and got elected to state assembly for the first time the same year as a Congress candidate. He got elected from the Siroda constituency. Since then he contests from the same constituency and has won and lost elections.

 

In 1989 Goa Legislative Assembly elections, he retained his Siroda seat and continued his success steak in 1994, 1999 and 2002 state elections from Siroda constituency. However Shirodkar lost the 2007 Goa Legislative Assembly election from the Siroda constituency to BJP candidate. He attempted for 2012 assembly elections as well, but lost to the same candidate, Mahadev Naik once again. He returned in a bang with victory over the same candidate in 2017 elections. He has won from the Siroda constituency as a Congress candidate 6 times and lost once. He has also served as a cabinet minister in the government led by Pratapsingh Rane (1985-1989 and 1994-1998), Ravi Naik (1991-1993) and 1998, Wilfred de Souza (1993-1994), Francisco Sardinha (1999-2000) and Luizinho Faleiro (1998-1999 and 1999).
