Subhas Datta Biography 
Subhas Datta is a leading environment activist from Howrah, West Bengal. He is active in this field for the past three decades. Datta is a qualified Chartered accountant by profession. In 2013 he was awarded Kolkata Hero by the Times of India Group. As an environmentalist his prime concerns include pollution, global warming and conservation of museums. He is keen in observing the changing face of the city he lives in. Noted Bengali actress Sayani Datta is his daughter. His wife Swati Datta is a homemaker.
His parents originally belonged to Bangladesh (British India) who came to India as refugees. He calls the grand old city of Kolkata his home. He was born in Howrah and is currently settled in Kolkata. He is married to Swati Datta and the couple has two children. Closely observing the changing Kolkata in the past 30 years, he strives hard to preserve whatever is left in India’s one of the oldest developed cities, which is nicknamed as ‘India’s cultural capital’ which gave birth to many intellectuals.
Seeing the fading environment he filed a series of PILs in the early 1990s to restore the green environment of Kolkata. After his hard work, city’s high court eventually established a special Green Bench to preserve the city, the first one of this kind in the country. His activism has influenced many young people to follow the same path to preserve mother Earth. Dutta has filed numerous court cases on environment and heritage protection issues.
He does all his research works himself, goes to the site and observes the happenings. He also takes pictures and talks with the stalk holders before making decisions that can benefit maximum number of living beings. Very often he has to face resistance from high political and financial resources. Some even tried to malign his reputation by insinuating his involvement in molestation and an attempt to murder case.
