Sreyash Sarkar Biography

Sreyash Sarkar is a budding writer from Bengal, best known as a poet. His works have been published in international literary journals, earning him international acclaim. He has been featured as the youngest achiever in the field of poetry in Education World Magazine and in the French world magazine, Le Mauricien. He was born into a family of musicians and singers. Renowned vocalists – Padma Shri Sumitra Guha and Shobha Raju are his grand-aunts through maternal ties. He is an engineering graduate, who is currently pursuing his PhD. He is also a Hindustani vocalist and painter.

Sreyash hails from West Bengal, and he was born into a family of art enthusiasts and musicians. Both his parents are academicians. He also received musical training during his younger days. He trained Hindustani Classical Music in the Kirana and Gwalior gharanas, apart from a little bit of Carnatic music. His schooling was done at South Point School. Since school days, he contributed articles and poems to different kinds of publications. He was a student correspondent for Voices, the literary supplement of the leading English newspaper, The Statesman. He completed Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka. For post-graduation studies he moved to France, and graduated in the year 2018.

His poems have been regularly published in different English magazines and journals, and some of his most popular poems are The Cage, Whirligig, The Optical Symphony and The Macrame of Carnal Waves. Though he predominantly writes poetry in English language, his Bengali poems have been published in Adorer Nauka, Anandabazar Patrika etc. He is the editor-in-chief of Kalomer Kalomishak, a bilingual magazine, which he founded in 2013. He is also a qualified painter, a practising Hindustani Classical musician and an electric engineer by profession.
