Sreesanth Biography

Sreesanth is an Indian cricketer, right handed batsman and right arm fast pace bowler. He plays for Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the IPL cricket. He is the first Kerala based Ranji player to play Twenty 20 match.

 

He was born on 6th February 1983 in Kothamangalam, Kerala. His parents are Santhakumaran Nair and Savithri Devi. He has one brother Dipu Santhan and one sister Nivedita who is a television actress in Kerala. Madhu Balakrishnan, famous South Indian playback singer is his brother in law. He was selected to the National Cricket Academy in 2000. His debut match was against Goa in the Ranji Trophy 2002-03.

 

He won hat-trick against Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2004. He represented India B in the Challenger Trophy in October 2005. His performance earned him Man of the Series award and this led to his selection to Indian team in ODI against Sri Lanka. He was selected in the 2011 Cricket World Cup as Praveen Kumar was injured. But he failed to prove his talent.

 

He was selected for the first Test squad against England in March 2006 instead of Zaheer Khan. He became the leading pace bowler of India in the tour of West Indies. He met with a number of controversies like breaching the International Cricket Council’s advertising logo policy and confrontation with pace man Andra Nel. He was dropped from the Indian team in 2007 and was called back again in 2009.

 

He played a vital role in World Twenty 20 Championship 2007. He got the wickets of the Australian openers Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden leading to the victory of the Indian team in the semifinal match. He had a small problem with Harbhajan Singh during the 2008 IPL and Harbhajan slapped him on his cheek. Harbhajan was punished by the BCCI when he was found to be guilty.

 

Sreesanth is noted for his emotional behavior. He was fined frequently for this behavior. He was warned by BCCI and Kerala Cricket Association for his behavior and violating the codes of conduct. He is no doubt an emerging cricket player.
