Sreenivasan Biography

Sreenivasan is an Indian film actor, director and producer who is notable for his satirical screen plays. His comedy has won great applause among the audience. Some of his famous screenplays are T. P. Balagopalan M. A., Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam, Varavelpu, Thalayanamanthram, Sandesam, Azhakiya Ravanan and Gandhinagar 2nd Street.  He wrote scripts and directed the films Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala.

 

He was born on 6th April 1956 in Thalassery in Kannur in Kerala. He completed his schooling at Government High School at Kathiroor and Pazhassi Raja N. S. S. College at Mattannur. He studied at Film Chamber Institute at Chennai in 1977 and got his diploma. His wife name is Vimala. His son Vineeth is a playback singer and actor.

 

He started his career in film industry from 1977 through the movie Manimuzhakam. He was given a role in the movie Melai by A. Prabhakaran who coached him as the vice principal in the college. The first movie for which he wrote the script was Oadarathummava Aalariyam in 1984. He worked as the director of the two movies that won awards, Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala. He produced some successful films with the partnership of Sathyan Anthikkad.

 

Some of his movies include Oru Naal Varum, Aatmakatha, Kadha Parayumbol, Kilichundan Mampazham, Yathrakarude Sradhakku, Chandralekha, Azhakiya Ravanan, Udayananu Tharam, Artham, Pattanapravesham, Nadodikattu, Muthuramkunnu P.O., Mani Muzhakkam, Panchavadi Palam, Mukunthetta Sumitra Vilikkunnu, Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu, etc.

 

Most of his films depicted the problems in the society. He blends this with the satirical comedy. His films Sandesam, Vellanakalude Nadu and Varavelpu were great success. He used to give message against the unproductive labor unions, brutality of police and yellow magazines. He also criticizes Kerala politics through his films. He appeared in the TV show Valiya Lokavum Cheriya Sreeniyum on Kairali TV.

 

He won National Best Film on the Other Social Issues award for the film Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, Kerela State Film Award seven times for the films Katha Parayumbol, Thakarachenda, Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, Mazhayethum Munpe, Sandesam, and Vadakkunokkiyantram. He also has won Asianet film awards five times and many other awards.
