Sourabhee Debbarma Biography

Sourabhee Debbarma is a popular singer from Agartala, Tripura who became the first female contestant to win the singing talent hunt show – Indian Idol, aired on Sony TV. She won the fourth series of the show, the first three series won by the male contestants – Abhijeet Sawant, Sandeep Acharya and Prashant Tamang respectively. She won the title in 2009 and the only female contestant to win this title till now.

 

She is known as a performer and a rockstar and currently performs in live shows across India and abroad. Her name is also included in the list of Guinness Book Of World Records, for her attempt to sing a song hanging upside down. She broke the previous record of 3 Min 53 seconds and added a new record to her name with a magical time - 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

 

She was born in Tripura in the year 1985. She is not professionally trained in music. But her charismatic smile adds glamour to her stage performances with her perfect moves, making her a rock star. Since younger days, she wanted to become a rock star and loved to perform before people. But her parents were so strict and were not serious about her singing career. But with her win in Indian Idol, she became a popular rockstar, not only in India but across the world. Till now she has performed live shows in Hongkong, Nigeria, Durban, New York, London, Kuwait, Bangladesh, Nepal etc.

 

After winning the show, Meherbaan (2010) – was her first released album, which was nominated for the best popular music album in Global Indian Music Awards 2010. She also worked with the music director Shantanu Moitra for the music video 'Our Northeast Our Star'.
