Sonakshi Sinha Biography

Sonakshi Sinha is a very popular actress associated with Bollywood. She made her film debut opposite Salman Khan in Bollywood blockbuster Dabangg (2010) and since then she is fully active in Bollywood. Known for her talent and acting skills, Lootera remains her most memorable role on Bollywood screen for which she earned a Filmfare best actress nomination. Dabangg, Dabangg 2, Son of Sardar, Rowdy Rathore and Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty are her box office hit films, though she had only less screen presence in the hero-oriented film. She is the daughter of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha, and her elder brother Luv Sinha has also debuted silver screen. She has one more brother, Kush Sinha, the twin brother of Luv Sinha.

She was born in Patna in 1987 as the daughter of star of 1980s, Shatrughan Sinha. Her mother Poonam Sinha has also worked in films. Obviously Sonakshi too followed her parents’ footsteps. But she started her career in films as a fashion designer in 2005 for the film, Mera Dil Leke Dekho soon after her graduation in fashion designing from Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University. She received a magic entry opposite Salman Khan through Dabangg in 2010 and the movie was the highest grosser of the year. In fact the movie revived the falling career of Salman Khan in the 2000s, and Sonakshi too received Filmfare award for best female debut for the same.

During her early years she mostly worked with senior artists of the industry like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan etc and bagged her first lead role opposite a young actor through the movie Lootera, which turned to be a milestone movie of her career. She was starred opposite Ranvir Singh and received rave reviews from critics. She also received Zee Awards Best actress (Critics’ choice) award for this role.

Since then though she has been starring opposite lead stars of Bollywood and her films have always made a huge impact on box office, she was criticized for choosing roles where she had less scope to exhibit her acting talents. But period-drama Lootera released in 2013 changed the destiny of this young actress. She got opportunity to work with young actors only after this memorable film of her career. She was also paired with Shahid Kapoor for R….Rajkumar the same year which fared well at box office.

She mostly appeared in a traditional or village belle avatar in her early films, and in the recent times she has done a makeover. In 2016 she played lead role in woman-centric Akira which received lukewarm response from public, same is the case of Force 2 too. But both these movies got noticed for her complete makeover to a modern girl and her action roles, entirely different from the roles she has chosen till now. Sonakshi Sinha is now experimenting with her roles, and her latest film, where she played a media reporter in Noor also got appreciated. She also made her debut as a singer through this film.
