Sohail Sen Biography

Sohail Sen is a young music composer and singer of Bollywood, who hails from Bengal.  He is the son of noted Bollywood music director, Sameer Sen of Dilip Sen – Sameer Sen duo. He debuted as a film composer with the Hindi film Sirf (2008) and gained success through his acclaimed work in ‘What's Your Raashee?’ (2009).Though the movie was a flop its songs set on various moods on 9 sun signs were well noticed. It was regarded as a musical treat and finest experiment with Bollywood music, for which Sohail rendered his voice as a playback singer as well.

 

"What's Your Raashee?”, “Pyari pyari”, "Su Chhe", "Salone Kya" and "Jao Na" were recorded in his own voice. The movie was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker of Lagaan fame and he gave him the next assignment of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, next year. In 2011, he composed the music of hit movie - Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and all its songs were chartbusters. From Sydney with Love, Salman Khan’s Ek tha tiger and Gunday are other released movies of Sen as a music director.  

 

He was born in 24 June 1984 in Bengal in a family of musicians who has been associated with film music. He belongs to the fourth generation who has entered into the world of film music. His paternal grandfather Shri Shambhu Sen has been an influential figure behind his career in music who formally taught him Hindustani music. Sen started learning music at the age of six and learnt many instruments like piano and tabla.

 

His career as a music director at the young age of thirteen when he composed the music for a telefilm titled Roshni. The song was sung by renowned singer Kavita Krishnamurthy. Then he assisted his father for the next nine years in music. His debut Hindi movie – Sirf went unnoticed. Actually, Ashutosh Gowariker wanted to give the assignment of What's Your Raashee to Rahman. As Rahman was busy with Slumdog Millionaire the opportunity went to Sohail and it proved to be the turning point of his career.
