Sobhan (telugu Director) Biography

Sobhan was a noted film director associated with Telugu cinema in the 2000s. He also played brief roles in movies. His elder brother Lakshmipati was an actor associated with Telugu cinema, best known for his comic and character roles on screen. Shobhan directed the hit movie Varsham, starring Prabhas. Sobhan marked his directorial debut with 2002 film, Bobby, and the movie gave a major break to Lakshmipati’s career as well, who played the role of home minister in the movie. He died of a massive heart at Bhoomika Chawla's residence while he was discussing a film script, and his elder brother too, who was crestfallen with the sudden demise of his younger brother died one month later.

Sobhan was born in 1968. He hailed from East Godaveri. Their father owned a film theatre, and that’s the reason why the brothers got fascinated with acting and filmmaking. Both the brothers moved to Hyderabad together, and struggled a lot for getting success. Later they worked together also. While lder brother started his professional career in the second half of 1990s, working with television, Sobhan worked as an assistant director in the industry. A protégé of Ram Gopal Varma, he learned the art of filmmaking from this veteran. Within a short career span, both the siblings established themselves. Lakshmipati went on to act more than 50 films in the next 6 years while Shobhan directed 1 TV serial, 3 Telugu films and also appeared in one movie.

He worked in television, and directed one Malayalam serial, Navaneetha (2000) before he directed Bobby in 2002 with Mahesh Babu in lead role. It was a remake of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Bollywood flick, Zamana Deewana. There was no turning back after that and the siblings turned busy in the industry very soon. He directed two films in 2004 – Varsham and Chanti. Sobhan suffered with cardiac arrest on 6 January 2008, and was declared dead when brought to hospital. He was survived with his wife and two sons. He was working on a movie when death took him away at the age of only 40. He was a chain smoker.

His brother actor died of a cardiac attack in his home bathroom, just 30 days after Sobhan’s death. Quite co-incidence, siblings died in similar circumstances in their middle ages and that too, because of heart attack. He was found dead in his bathroom and his body was found 2 days later. He was 52 years old.
