Siyaram Tiwari (professor) Biography

Siyaram Tiwari is a well-known professor, author and scholar from Bihar. He is a professor of Hindi language. As a scholar and renowned teacher, he has earned fame across the world, and he has authored a few works as well. He has taught at Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan and many other leading educational institutions of the country, and has also served as a visiting professor to many educational institutions in India and abroad. He has written more than twenty books on Hindi literature and has published a large number of research papers, critical articles, book reviews etc. Most of his articles have been published in reputed Hindi journals and magazines. This scholar has been invited to Doordarshan and AIR for talks.

Siyaram Tiwari was born in born 5 December 1934 in Patna, British India. He completed his master’s in Hindi literature from Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, 1958. It was followed by Ph. D in 1962 and D. Litt in 1974, both from Patna University. After that he taught in many colleges of Bihar initially. Then he taught in other parts of India including West Bengal, where he was a faculty at Shantiniketan, started by Tagore. While working in Shantiniketan, he rose to Professor position as well as Head of the Department of Hindi & Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences with the same institution.

He retired from active teaching in 1999, yet continued as a visiting professor in many educational institutions. He also wrote in full swing during this period, and published his papers in journals and other forms of publications. After retirement he was Prime Minister’s nominee in Viswa-Bharati Court. He was felicitated by Bhartiya Hindi Parishad in 2011 for his overall contributions towards the field of education.
