Sivakumar Ananth Biography

Sivakumar Ananth is a film director of Tamil cinema, who has worked as the assistant and associate director of Mani Ratnam for many years. Occasionally he also acts in Mani Ratnam’s movies and was last seen in 2015 romantic saga – OK Kanmani, playing the cameo role of Dulquer Salman’s elder brother Vasudevan Varadarajan. In 2006 he made his directorial debut through the Telugu film - Chukkallo Chandrudu, and co-scripted the 2007 Tamil film, Kannamoochi Yenada, aside another Mani Ratnam’s assistant, V. Priya.

 

A native of Manamadurai, his childhood days were spent there where he completed his education. He completed graduation from BITS Pilani in 1995 and did MS in Mass Communications from USA, and also did a small course on Film Theory in University of Florida before he returned back in 1997. Since young he used to write plays and was quite attracted to the film Roja of Mani Ratnam. The day which he watched the movie, he couldn’t sleep. That’s why he decided to enter film making. Once he called the director and Mani Ratnam agreed to take him as assistant. After completing MS course abroad, he joined Mani ratnam’s team during the last 20 days shooting of 1998 film – Dil Se. It included the son – Chayya Chayya and he was designated to supervise sound effects for the movie.

 

Sakhi was his first complete film as assistant director. In 2001 he got opportunity to work as the director for Vikram Singh’s Tamil film titled Acham Thavir with Madhavan and Jyothika in the main leads. But after 20 days of shoot, due to financial issues, the film got shelved. He worked with Mani Ratnam again and also did a few commercials in between. Chukkallo Chandrudu – marked his film debut as an independent director.
