Sippy Pallippuram Biography

Sippy Pallippuram is a highly acclaimed Children’s storyteller of Malayalam literature. He is one among the greatest figures of juvenile literature from Kerala in the post-independent period. He is a recipient of several awards including Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. Appuppan Thadiyude Swarga Yathra won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Endowment, Oridathoru Kunjunni (2010) received Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award and Unnikalkku Noottiyettu Gurudeva Kathakal (2013) got Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. Thathakalude Gramam and Pooram are other major works which won Thrissur Sahrudaya Vedi Award and Bheema Children's Literature Award respectively.

 

He hails from Pallippuram, near Vaipin of Ernakulam district. ‘Pallipuram’ tag is added to his name. He was born on May 18, 1943. His childhood and younger days were spent in his native village where he completed his education. After completing his graduation studies, he started his career as a school teacher. Since 1966 he taught at St. Mary’s High School, Pallipuram. A teacher by profession, he authored more than 130 books belonging to children’s literature. A master of juvenile literature, he contributed both short stories and poems for more than 4 decades till now.

 

Some of his popular works include – Aanakk Thumbikai Undaayathengane, Chenda, Pooram, Appuppan Thadiyude Swarga Yathra, Nooru Akshara Paattukal, Nooru Ganithagaanangal,Minna Minung, Thathamme Poocha Poocha,Then Thullikal, Chandana Paava, Pappadam Pazham Paayasam, Mayilum Mazhavillum, Undanum Undiyum Puliyachanum, Kaattile Kathakal, Paavakka Kuttan, Nambooriyachanum Bhoothavum, Unnikk Nalla Kathakal etc.

 

In 1992, he received National award for best teacher and State Sahitya Institute award. Pappadam Pazham Paayasam received Kudumba Deepam award. He is the winner of the Kendra Sahitya Akademi's first ever award for Children's Literature. He feels that children's literature and litterateurs are not given enough recognition in the literary circles.
