Singampuli Biography

Singampuli is a cine artist associated with Tamil cinema, who started off as a director and later moved to acting field as a supporting actor. Red (2002) with Ajith and Maayavi (2005) with Suriya are his directorial ventures, and he was credited with the name Ram Sathya for his directorial ventures. He has co-directed/assisted the highly acclaimed films - Pithamagan (2003) and Naan Kadavul (2009). As a film actor, he is associated with Tamil cinema since late 2000s. As an actor, he got appreciation for his performance in Mayandi Kudumbathar.

He was born and brought up in Theni-Periyakulam. A movie buff, he was quite interested in cinema and used to watch at least 400 films a year. He completed engineering in Bangalore and later moved to Chennai to pursue a career in films. He worked under Sundar C. as an assistant director for nearly 15 films. He was associated with movie, Unnai Thedi starring Ajith, which completed 100 days. As promised earlier, Ajith was signed for Singampuli’s debut movie as a director – Red, an action film. However the tale of a Madurai based revolutionary was a box office failure. Maayavi (2005) with Suriya and Jyothika in lead roles was his second release.

As an actor, he was introduced to films by Bala, who offered him a role in his Nan Kadavul. But he gained attention as an actor through the film, Mayandi Kudumbathar. The movie directed by Rasu Madhuravan was his real big break. Thoonga Nagaram, Muthukku Muthaga and Nandi are some of his releases later and this actor though has plans for direction, he has put them aside to completely concentrate on his acting career which gave him popularity and fame.
