Simran Biography

Simran is an Indian actress who appeared mainly in Tamil and Telugu films. She made her film debut in Bollywood and acted in a number of Hindi films. Her first Tamil film was V. I. P. and her first Telugu film was Abbai Gari Pelli in the year 1997.

 

She was born on 4th April 1976 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She has two sisters Monal and Jyoti Naval, both of them are actresses. She has one brother Sumit. Her sister Monal committed suicide on 14th April, 2002. Simran finished her schooling at St. Anthony’s High School at Versova and completed her B. Com in Mumbai. She started her modeling career when she was still in her college. She could speak many languages, Punjabi, Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu. She is trained in Bharatanatyam and Salsa dancing. She married Deepak Bagga who was her family friend in December 2003 and has two sons, Adheep born in June 2005 and second son born on 17th March 2011.

 

Her Hindi debut film was Sanam Harjai in 1995 directed by Saawan Kumar. On seeing her performance in Superhit Muqable on Doordarshan’s Metro channel, Jaya Bachchan offered her a role in Tere Mere Sapne. She acted in supporting roles in films like Muqaddar, Bal Bramhachari, Agni Morcha, Gunda Gardi, Angaarai and Daadagiri. She acted in high budget Malayalam film with Mammootty, Indraprastham. She was introduced to Tamil film industry through the film Nerukku Ner opposite Surya in the year 1997.

 

Some of her commercially successful films are Nerukku Ner, Natpukkaaga, Thulladha Manamum Thullum, Kannedhiry Thondrinaal, Samarasimha Reddy, Anari No.1, Jodi, Priyamaanavale, Parthem Rasithem, Narasimha Naidu, Thamizh, Panchathantiram, Ramana, New, Vaali, Kannathil Muthamittal and Vaaranam Aayiram. She did modeling for many firms that include Ford Motors, PepsiCo, SubWay, Loreal, Hindustan Lever, Colgate Palmolive, etc.

 

She received Kalaimamani award from Government of Tamil Nadu. She got Tamil Nadu government award for the film Vaali. She got Filmfare Award for the film Kannathil Muthamittaal. She left film industry after her marriage and she is looking after a real estate firm in the suburbs of Palli Hill Mumbai together with her husband. The couple also owns a number of restaurants.
