Siddharth Sinha Biography

Siddharth Sinha is a National award winning short film director belonging to Bhojpuri language. He is best known for award winning short Bhojpuri film Udedh Bun (2008) became the first Bhojpuri film to win Silver Bear for Best Short Film at Berlin International Film Festival in year 2008. It also fetched National Film Award for Best Short fiction Film. Alok Rajwade and Swati Sen played pivot roles in this highly acclaimed short film. Udedh Bun was his academic short film, which he shot while studying at Berlinale Talent Campus. The short film The Job starring Kalki Koechlin is his most recent work.

 

Sinha was born in 1978 in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. At a young age he moved to Delhi, where he completed his studies. He graduated in Psychology from Delhi University and then enrolled at the prestigious FTII Pune to study filmmaking. He made his debut with the 10-minute docu-fiction Rangbela (2005). The film was screened at the 2006 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. The following year a projected documentary film gave him campus selection at Berlinale Talent Campus. He shot Udedh Bun as a part of his academic studies, while studying at the campus.

 

Udedh Bun won the Silver Bear at 58th Berlin International Film Festival 2008 on its world premiere and was showed at many international film festivals. He also won National Film awards for Best Short fiction Film at a very young age. He directed a music video for Kailash Kher for his first album titled ‘Kailasha’. He has also remained a jury member for a couple of film festivals. Most recently in 2018, he directed one short film, The Job starring Kalki Koechlin.
